...and they come into 66 from the tributary side roads, from

the wagon tracks and the rutted country roads, 66 is

the mother road, the road of flight.

The Mother Road is one of the most iconic fly drive holidays  in North America, connecting Chicago with Los Angeles covering some 2400 or so miles. Start your journet at the Windy City enjoying the sights, visitng the musuems and wandering around the shops and Millenium Park.

Oklahoma is the location of the Route 66 museum, dedicated to the great road, further along is Oklahoma City where you can buy a tailor made cowboy hat, as it is home to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

Amarillo is of course immortalized in song and from here you can see the famous Cadillac Ranch where 10 of the cars line nose down into the ground. An impressive and unusual sight! Cross over into New Mexico and pay a visit to Santa Fe with its missions and distinctive pueblos.

New Mexico provides mystical landscapes and deserves the name The Land of Enchantment. Albuquerque provides a wealth of nostalgia and road signs, petrol stations and diners relish in the Route 66 era. Veer off The Mother Road to take in Las Vegas if you wish. Take a detour to Joshua Tree national Park where the silouhettes of these plants provide an unusual landscape. You have now reached sunny South California and Los Angeles with its countless attractions. Route 66 ends on the Santa Monica Pier where you can stay to explore the area. A modest sign marks the end of your journey on one of the most fascinating and travelled roads in the world. Your fly drive holiday ends at Los Angeles airport where you will fly home.
